An archive of a protective ceremony shielding a water drain from silt, waste, and detritus summoned up by construction sites and eroded flood zones. Surveillance captures the demonstrative footage of the usage of a Witch’s Hat—a drain guard made from a highly permeable non-woven polypropylene geotextile that traps solids and oils, but allows water to drain through. Perhaps it’s the performance of placing the Witch’s hat into the drain with assistance of four hands, or maybe it’s the form itself—directly mimicking the structure of a conical hat worn by witches—the device holds power and protection over the errors of infrastructure.
